Isabelle
Mercier plays professional poker, but that is not the career path she started on. Isabelle was born in 1975 in Canada and
obtained a law degree from the University of Montreal. She practiced commercial law for six months before moving to Paris
where she attended the Sorbonne and perused a Master's degree in international law while she worked at the
Aviation Club de France where poker grabbed
and kept hold of her. She never returned to her law career.
The Aviation Club was established in 1907 and is located in the heart of Paris. It is one of the most elegant and sophisticated cardrooms
in the world and Isabelle was a perfect fit as the poker room manager. She was such a great manager that she was nominated twice for the
"European Poker Awards" in the "Staff Person of the Year" category. Although she excelled at her job, she eventually
quit the managerial position so she could play poker fulltime.
It didn't take long for Isabelle to start making her mark as a poker player. She made eleven final tables in one year including two first
place finishes. Her first win was at the WPT Ladies Invitational and her second victory was in the No-Limit event at the
European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

Mercier has appeared on the World Poker Tour numerous times. Her most recognizable appearance was when she won the
Ladies Event in 2004.
Isabelle played against some well known women (including
Cyndy Violette and Wendeen Eolis) and
absolutely dominated the table with her aggressive style. It was on this show where
Mike Sexton nicknamed her Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier. Isabelle
was also seen on the show as the host for the first three WPT events held at the Aviation Club in Paris. (She also played in the third season’s
Ladies Event.)
I ran into Isabelle several times at the 2005 World Series of Poker and she has a way about her that makes her stand out from everybody else.
I remember seeing her walk down the hall and she had a bounce in her step. Her bounce combined with her hairstyle (similar to Princess Leah’s)
gave her the appearance of looking cute. The amazing thing is she sometimes comes across as one of the most elegant women I have ever seen.
Certainly, she has the ability to adapt to her surroundings. I finally ended up meeting her before the Main Event at the
PokerStars cocktail party. She was congenial and
had a great French accent.
Isabelle Mercier now travels the tournament circuit. At one time she was a sponsored member of
Team PokerStars. For more on Isabelle's, check out her
