High
on the list of Hollywood's award-honored performers, James Woods has earned the highest respect of the people who know acting best: other
actors. His intense and nuanced performances in over seventy major motion pictures, television films and mini-series have earned many times over his
reputation as one of the American entertainment world's most varied and explosive actors and most fascinating stars.
They have also earned him three Emmys, including two Best Actor In A Motion Picture awards for his work in Promise and My Name Is Bill W.
His two Oscar nominations from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences were for Best Actor for his astonishing performance in Salvador
and for Best Actor In A Supporting Role for his portrayal of Medgar Evers' assassin, Byron De La Beckwith, in Ghosts of Mississippi. He has
won the Golden Globe Award, the Obie Award, Clarence Derwent Award and Theatre World Award on the New York stage before coming west to become
a leading film star. He has been nominated for the Golden Globe ten times, for the CableAce Award and has won the American TV Critics Award and the
Golden Satellite Award two times.
He exploded on the Hollywood scene with the powerful portrait of evil he brought to the film, The Onion Field. None of his portrayals can be
forgotten, and some of the most memorable include his work in Once Upon A Time In America, Against All Odds, Videodrome, Casino
and True Believer. But one of the best measurements of his soaring talent is the number of great directors who have worked with him time and again,
including such creators as Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Clint Eastwood, Harold Becker, Rob Reiner, Sophia Coppola and Robert Zemeckis. His skill
in bringing wrenching reality to any role is reflected in the fact that he has brought more real-life characters to the screen than any top star,
running the gamut from McCarthy henchman Roy Cohn to New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.
James is an avid poker player in many major casino tournaments as well as on Hollywood Poker where he acts as a spokesman. |
