Lacey
Jones was born in San Antonio, Texas and first started playing poker when she was five years old. Her family was very competitive and
loved to play the game as a way to spend time together and interact socially. Lacey says that the women in her family were always
better players than the men, and therefore she never questioned her limitations in an industry that was then largely dominated by men.
Lacey first started taking poker seriously while attending the University of Arizona and majoring in Political Science. In several
interviews, Lacey has said that she made more money playing poker at fraternities than she did bartending during her college years.
After graduating at the age of 22, Lacey moved to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career. In 2005, she was hired by ESPN to appear in
a charity poker tournament for Cystic Fibrosis. Although her job was technically to be “eye candy” for the players and media, Lacey
surprised everyone when she finished 32nd out of 360 players. Despite just missing the money, everyone took notice of this beauty’s
skills at the tables. Absolute Poker
approached Lacey to represent the site in future tournaments and soon had her working with professional
Mark Seif to fine tune her game. Thanks to her good looks and
charisma, Lacey’s career as a model/hostess/poker player exploded.
Lacey says she always uses her sex appeal at the table, saying she doesn’t mind flirting and making people feel bad for calling her if
she wants them to fold. She says that she finds putting bluffs on men pretty easy, because she thinks that they underestimate how well
she can play and they always think she has a hand when she raises.
In addition to several tournament cashes under her belt (including a cash in the 2006 World Series of Poker Ladies Event), Lacey’s
modeling career continues to flourish. In 2008, Lacey she appeared on the cover of Bluff Magazine and was named the “hottest woman in
poker” by Wicked Chops Poker. Previously a runway model, she signed with both Absolute Poker and Zizazz Energy Drink in 2009, adding
to an impressive resume that includes appearances on the HBO series Entourage, The O.C. and the NBC series Las Vegas. She was also the
on-air hostess for ESPN 360 during the 2009 World Series of Poker.
When she is not working or playing poker, Lacey enjoys spending time outside with her friends and family. She is fluent in French and
has hopes of one day becoming an ambassador to a French speaking country. Lacey has called herself a “huge nerd” because she enjoys
reading books and studying quantum physics in her spare time. Ultimately, Lacey says that her goal in life is to enjoy every moment
and not take anything for granted.
Lacey’s favorite part of playing poker is that it reminds her of being around her family. She also claims to be a very good Blackjack
player and can count cards. However, when she is in Las Vegas for a poker tournament, Lacey says she swears off gambling in the pit
and drinking because they distract from her focus. The most influential person in Lacey’s life is her mother, who raised her on her
own while struggling with breast cancer. Lacey says that her mom never gave up, and taught her to do the same. |
