Men "The
Master" Nguyen is a name that is sometimes controversial. Since I have never been one to shy away from controversy and
it is "my" website, I can say that in my opinion, he is one of the best tournament players around.
I think Men has one of the most interesting personalities in poker. He is charismatic, funny, and friendly.
I have never been to a tournament table that he has been on where he was not the center of attention. This of course is one
of his assets in being such a successful tournament player. People focus on him and try to outwit him and he knows this and
uses it to his advantage. Some people also think that because he often has a Corona in hand that he might not be at the top
of his game which is absolutely false. It is all part of his persona.
The main reason that he excels in poker is that he prepares himself beyond what other people would even think of doing. He
tutors people. They sit around and talk about the game and tournament strategy. He puts in more work than the average
person. Most people just show up, Men is better than most because he starts the hour before, the day before, the week before
his opponent. He is a true competitor. Like I said, he is consistently thinking about strategy and he is willing to offer some
insights to players which is one thing that I admire about him. In one discussion about tournament strategy, he talked about how
it is more important to read your opponents hand than it is to read your own. He has truly mastered that skill. He is one of the
best at reading people. He also suggested to mix up your game a little depending on how far along you are in the tournament.

Men Nguyen has an interesting story about how he got started playing poker. He was one of the "boat people" after the
end of the Vietnam War. He got his American citizenship in 1986. He stumbled on poker during a trip to Las Vegas and was hooked on
the game. He would go home and think about what it would take to become a great poker player. He played every weekend and a year later,
he entered his first tournament. He has not looked back since.
Men has seven World Series
of Poker bracelets including two in Seven Card Stud in 1992 and 2003, one in Stud Eight or Better in 1995, Omaha 8 or Better
in 1996, Ace to Five Triple Draw Lowball in 2003 and Stud Championship in 2010.
Some of his other accomplishments include first place in the Omaha Hi Lo and the Pot Limit Hold'em events at the World Poker
Challenge and first in the mixed games at the Legends of Poker. He has numerous final table appearances on the World Poker
Tour including the Hollywood Invitational and
Bay 101. His final table appearances could
fill several pages on this site.
Nguyen returns to Vietnam regularly, where he is active in philanthropic work like establishing a kindergarten in 1996 that was paid for
in part by contributions from other poker players in addition to himself.
He won Card Player Magazine's player of the year in 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2005. he's also been in the top ten several other years.
He has truly earned his name: "The Master".
