Scotty NguyenI have probably known Scotty the longest of any of the tournament players. Before I ever became interested in playing tournaments, I served Michelobs to Scotty when I worked at the Commerce Casino. He was always a pleasure to serve and now that I play, he is a pleasure to watch and play with. He always seems to enjoy himself and one can usually find him laughing or making jokes at the table.

Jokes and laughing aside, he is a competitor. He wants it all or nothing. During the 2003 World Series of Poker, he said that all great poker players have their own style: aggressive, loose, or tight. He takes one hand at a time because winning is EVERYTHING. Nguyen once stated that he has a very high win rate once he arrives at the final table. He said that he has been there so many times that he knows what he has to do. That is exactly the reason why he has so many titles under his belt including the main event at the World Series of Poker in 1998.

The final hand of that championship event will be remembered for a long time to come because of Scotty telling his opponent, Kevin McBride, "You call this one and it's all over, baby." He called and it was over. McBride had called thinking that playing the full house on the board was going to get him half the pot, but Scotty had a nine in his hand giving him a larger full house. He earned the title and a million dollars.

Scotty is one of the best and most well-rounded poker players around. He is also among the highest earning tournament players of all time. With all that being said, it is his personal style that I like. His laugh, charming personality, and the way that he finishes every sentence with the word "baby" is the icing on the cake on why he is one of my favorite tournament players ever.

One quality that I find in common in many of the poker players that I admire is confidence. Scotty Nguyen definitely exudes confidence. During the World Poker Tour event at the Bellagio in 2002, he stated, "I play to win, not lose. Scotty Nguyen gonna win it tomorrow, baby." He did not win the event, but I think that is a key reason why he has such a high win rate. He believes that he is going to win, therefore he does.

Prince of PokerAs mentioned previously, Scotty won the World Series of Poker champion event in 1998. His other WSOP wins were from the $2,000 Omaha Hi/Low event in 1997, the Pot Limit Omaha in 2001 and the $5,000 Omaha Hi/Low event in 2001 bringing his bracelet total to four. He also has two World Poker Open titles at Foxwoods (including one championship event worth $300,000), and has several Legends of Poker titles.

He has had numerous World Poker Tour final table finishes including the Bellagio event (Season 1), the Party Poker Million event (Season 2), the Mirage Casino and Horseshoe Tunica event (Season 3) and finally won the WPT World Poker Open event Season 4 in January 2006.

He has appeared on numerous poker television shows including Poker Superstars International, NBC's National Heads Up Poker Championship and Poker After Dark. In 2004, he appeared on Late Night with Conan O' Brien.
