There's a reason that the World Series of Poker is the most popular live poker event on the planet.
Aspiring poker players from the edges of the Earth can converge on Las Vegas and battle each other with millions of dollars on the line. Intellect,
hunger, and survival are the tools needed to succeed. With pride and riches on the line, the largest live tournaments attract both the biggest
stars and the up and coming pretenders. Why would anything be different in the world of online poker? The true competitors duel it out in the
Full Tilt Online Poker Series,
or FTOPS. Held on one of online poker’s premier sites, the FTOPS regularly attracts the biggest names, dishes out the biggest beats,
and awards some of the largest prizes available. It’s a must for any online poker player.
The very first FTOPS began with seven events, culminating with a $535 No Limit Texas Hold'em Main Event that drew 1,468 competitors.
Full Tilt member "crownnginger" hauled in a payday of $161,480. The entire prize pool of the first FTOPS weighed in at just over
two million dollars. Not bad for the premiere of the online poker series. The appeal of the FTOPS has led to rapid expansion throughout
the years. After all, with a satellite structure in place, could you really resist the urge to lay your claim to life-changing money?
Much like the WSOP has expanded to encompass 55 events of varying types of poker, so has the FTOPS. The first FTOPS was diverse in itself.
Games consisted of No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Hold’em, Omaha, HORSE, and a six-handed event. Since then, the FTOPS has grown in the types
of games offered. Seven card stud, Razz, and special mixed game tournaments have appeared. Six-handed games have also been prominently
featured, though vary in number, buy in, and game type from year to year.
This increase in game offerings has attracted some of the biggest names in poker. Many have captured victory on Full Tilt’s virtual felts.
In the very first event of the very first FTOPS, Joe “hoodini10” Udine worked his way through a field of 2,000 competitors en route to an
$86,000 payday. The very first final table set the tone for things to come, as Udine competed with Roland de Wolfe, Howard Lederer, and Eric Froehlich.
In the third FTOPS, Sorel Mizzi dominated a field of 703 entrants in a $216 buy in tournament. He played as "kristy_sea" and
the win sent him into the spotlight in the online poker world. Mizzi followed up his performance in the third FTOPS with another win
the next year by taking down a $216 Pot Limit Hold’em event, outlasting a field of 1,072 entrants.
Still other online poker stars have, at one point or another, taken home an FTOPS title. The FTOPS, therefore, is an important stepping stone for an
average online poker player to become truly great. Each of these stars etched a name for themselves by taking home an FTOPS title. Winning any event
in the FTOPS (or just placing high, for that matter) also provides a player with a solid bankroll to build their poker experience, skills, and stature.
As opposed to playing with the masses in other online poker mass events like PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker, the FTOPS typically sports
a smaller field. Buy-ins range from hundreds to thousands of dollars and the site is diligent about offering one of the best satellite systems available.
The Full Tilt pros are another reason why the FTOPS is so successful. Players who otherwise would not get a chance to have the opportunity to play with the likes
of Phil Ivey and Mike Matusow. The FTOPS brings the entire army of Team Full Tilt members to the tables to play against regular players from all over the world.
