Behind - Needing to improve to win the hand.

On any given poker hand, you can be “ahead” or “in the lead,” meaning you would win the pot if the hand ended at that moment, or you can be “behind,” meaning you need to improve enough to be the first place hand in order to win. If you do improve to be the first place hand, this is called “catching up.” Being behind is different from being an “underdog,” which means you have less than a 50/50 chance to win the hand, but does not imply anything about your current position if the hand ended at that moment. It is possible to be behind and be a favorite, just as it is possible to be in the lead and be an underdog. Most commonly, you are behind as a favorite when you have a really big draw. For example, if you hold Kc Qc, and your opponent holds 6s 5s, and the flop is Jc 10c 6h, you would be behind because you have king high and your opponent has a pair of sixes, but you would still be a substantial favorite to win the hand because of your drawing power. That being said, being behind is generally a bad thing. That is one reason that starting hand selection is so important. If you start with a better hand then your opponent, you start the hand in the lead, and your opponent has to be the one to try to catch up.

Usage: Behind In The Hand, Come From Behind
