Blank - A card that doesn't affect the hand.

A blank card is a card that didn't help your hand or most likely didn't help your opponent either. For example if the turn was a four of diamonds on a board of QhJh7s, the four would be considered a blank. The four did not complete any straight draw and since it was a diamond, it did not complete the possible flush draw either. If there was any kind of action preflop and on the flop, you can also rule out that the four helped your opponent in any way because he most likely wouldn't be playing a hand like Q4 or even 44.

Of course, a card that appears to be a blank will sometimes make your opponent’s hand. This will happen a lot in low limit Holdem games where many players do not have a good concept of proper preflop hand selection, and can be holding any two cards. It will also happen is Seven Card Stud games when your opponent has a hidden pocket pair and completes a hidden set. You will sometimes get burned when you assume that a ragged card is a blank. However, the idea that you can discount certain cards from having an impact on the hand is a valid one, and acting on it will make you a lot more money than it will cost you.
