Broadway - An ace high straight, AKQJT.

There are many different nicknames in poker. Some nicknames are given to players like Doyle Brunson (Texas Dolly). Some are given for starting hand combinations like King Jack (Kojak) and other nicknames are for five card hand combinations such as A2345 (The Wheel). For the ace high straight, the nickname is Broadway or Broadway Straight.

A Broadway is a powerful hand especially in Holdem. If a flush is not possible and there are no pairs on board, then a player who is holding the Broadway would have the nut hand. If a player held Big Slick (ace king) on a QJT84 board, he would have an unbeatable hand. The great thing about a hand like this is that players will often get paid by other players who have the idiot end of the straight (the lower straight). If this happens in No Limit Holdem, players can get paid off handsomely. In Pot Limit Omaha, players with a broadway straight on the flop should proceed with caution. A lot of players lose too much money in situations where they have the nut hand, but their opponents are freerolling on them (have the same hand with a big redraw).
