Burn - The process of discarding the top card off the deck before dealing the next card.
The term burn can be used as a verb or a noun. When a dealer discards the top card before dealing the rest of the cards that
will be in play, he/she is "burning" that card. The card that is discarded is often referred to as the "burn card."
Steps have been taken over the years to help prevent cheating in poker games. One of those steps is the act of burning a
card. Burning makes it much less likely that the top card will be accidentally seen. Also, it makes it harder for a "mechanic"
or cheating dealer to manipulate a deck, because the second card is more difficult to control or maneuver than the top card.
