Completed Hand – A hand where the draw has been made. Usually refers to a straight, or any hand stronger than a straight.
In a high game, a completed hand is a hand which contains a five card combination of a straight or better. This means
that a player must have been dealt at least five cards in order to have a completed hand. There is one exception to
this. If a player makes four of a kind in the first four cards it is considered a completed hand. This is because in
most games this hand can not be improved upon (Omaha is the exception), regardless of how the hand progresses.
Hands containing fewer than five cards and hands that are weaker than a straight are generally not considered completed
hands. This includes all flush and
straight draws. If the draw is
subsequently made prior to the hand ending, the hand becomes complete.
The term “completed hand” is also used in Lowball
games. In this context it describes a five card hand which is strong enough to stay pat on. In fact, the term is used in many
types of poker games, but its implication is always that your hand is a finished product. Some types of completed hands may be
improved upon. For instance, a flush or straight can achieve a higher ranking, but its fundamental nature is set; that is why it
is a completed hand.

When you complete your hand it often has substantially more value than it did when it was a draw. You can expect players to bet
much more aggressively once they have completed their hand. So, the manner in which your opponents bet can indicate weather or
not they have completed their hands.
