Fire – To make the first bet in a betting round.

This term is often used to describe a player who emphatically bets out with chips to show strength. Typically used by television poker announcers to describe the action. For example, if an early position limper feigning weakness then makes a quick post-flop stab at a pot, the announcer might say, “Carlos wastes no time ‘firing’ 50 thousand in chips into a 40 thousand pot”. It is not necessarily done out of weakness. Players can fire into a pot because they are mad, sense weakness or commonly when they make a hand on the river and fire aggressively because they made their hand.

The poker term, fire is also used to describe somebody who is running hot or "on fire." Sometimes a player can go on a poker rush and win many hands in a row. This player would be said to be, "on fire" of "en fuego."
