Flat Call – To only call a raise rather than re-raising or folding, despite holding a strong hand.

As opposed to just calling, “flat calling” puts emphasis on the fact that a player did not raise, even though a raise would normally seem appropriate.

There are several situations in which one might just “flat call” rather than choosing to re-raise. If a player has a huge starting hand such as AA or KK, he might slow-play with the intentions of making a move on later streets. This is often done in No Limit Holdem because slowplaying a hand can pay huge dividends. However, it doesn't only happen in No-Limit, players can slow-play their strong holdings in Limit as well when the betting limits on the turn increase to double what it is on the flop.
