Full House – Any three cards of the same rank, plus two cards of another rank.

Also referred to as a “full boat” or simply a “boat”, the full house is a very strong poker holding. The only hands of greater value are 4 of a kind, a straight flush and a royal flush.

When comparing the strength of two “full houses” to see who has the better hand, the rank of the “three of a kind” portion is looked at first and then the pair. For example, a player who holds QQQ33 wins over a player who has 999AA. If they are playing Holdem and one player is holding AK and another is holding AQ on a board of AAQ33 then the player with the AQ would win the hand with aces full of queens (AAAQQ) versus his opponents aces full of threes (AAA33).

One example of a very profitable full house is during the 2003 World Series of Poker when Chris Moneymaker's full house (fours full of fives) defeated Sammy Farha's two pair (jacks and fours) to the tune of $1.3 million.
