In the Air - A phrase that is used at the beginning of many tournaments to let players know the cards are being dealt.

At the beginning of tournaments, the director often states something like, “Players, please take your seats… the cards are ‘in the air’”. Anyone who has ever watched NBC’s “Poker After Dark” knows that the hostess of these events begins each telecast by introducing the players and follows that by saying, “Let’s get the cards in the air!” This will let the dealer know that the tournament has started and they can start pitching the cards.

The phrase can be interchanged with "Shuffle Up and Deal."
