Jackpot – A prize awarded to a player (or players).

A jackpot is a prize paid by the casino when certain predetermined qualifications are met. A bad beat jackpot is the most common type of jackpot in poker rooms. Each game (and casino) has its own requirements in order for the jackpot to be valid. At the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, a bad beat jackpot is hit when one player has aces full of tens or better and is beat by four of a kind or better. One stipulation is that both hole cards in both hands must be used.

Another example of a type of jackpot offered in casinos is high hand jackpots. Normally in a set period of time, whoever shows down the highest ranking hand in any game in the casino will win a prize.

Other jackpots include drawings for automobiles, cash, or other merchandise.
