Kill Pot – A pot in which the betting limits is increased from the normal stakes of the game due to a certain
criteria having been met.
Typically, kill pots are seen in split pot
games. If one player scoops the whole
pot and it is above a specified amount (dictated by the house), the next pot will be a “kill pot” wherein the player who
previously scooped is required to place a blind that increases the limits for the next hand.
Some casinos offer “half kill” games. For example, in a $4-$8 Omaha H/L game with a “half kill”, the limits would
increase to $6-$12 on the next hand of a qualifying pot. If it were a “full kill” game, the betting doubles on the next
hand to $8-$16. The player posting the bigger bet (blind) is the “killer” and is said to have “killed the pot” for the
amount of the “kill”.
In some poker rooms, a kill pot is created when the same player wins two consecutive hands.
