Misdeal - A hand that is dealt incorrectly.

Dealers are human, and humans make mistakes. Given the number of hands typically dealt per session, most dealers do a very good job in keeping “misdeals” to a minimum.

However, in the event they do make a mistake, a faulty deal results and the hand must be re-dealt. A common misdeal occurs when cards stick together and go unnoticed until all the initial cards have been dealt and a player discovers he has too many hole cards. There are rules regarding misdeals. Sometimes all the cards are returned and another hand is dealt in it's place. Other times, the hand continues (like with a boxed card) and adjustments will be made (like declaring someone's hand dead). Floormen usually make all decisions regarding misdeals.

One advantage of online (or electronic table) play is the complete elimination of “misdeals”, as the cards are “virtual” and dealing is computer controlled.
