Offsuit - Cards that are not of the same suit.

Any two cards dealt to a player in a Texas Hold’em hand that are not of the same suit are considered “offsuit”. Thus, a starting Hold’em hand such as Qh-Ts would be called “queen-ten-offsuit” because hearts and spades are obviously different.

Playing offsuit cards is limiting in that it is much more difficult for a player to make a flush. Whereas a player holding two suited cards only needs three more of his suit to appear among the five community cards.

Oftentimes, a situation will arise when two players have the same cards in rank (i.e. – AQ vs. AQ), most often resulting in a split pot. However, if one player has suited cards as opposed to his opponent having offsuit cards, the suited player has a decided advantage (odds) in drawing to a flush to break the tie and scoop the entire pot over his offsuit opponent.
