Out - A card that will improve your hand. Usually one that will make your hand a winner.

Poker outs are most commonly used to describe live cards in the deck that will help your hand so that it wins.

For example, if you hold two suited cards that match two of the suits on the flop, you have “outs” to make a flush. Typically heard in the plural, you might hear in this case, “I have nine outs to make my flush.” This refers to the nine remaining unseen cards of the suit.

If you have an open-ended straight draw and two overcards to an opponents small pair, you might have 14 outs. For example, you hold J-T and your opponent has 77. You are behind, but the flop comes 9-Q-3. Now, any eight (4 cards) + any king (4) + any jack (3 left) + any ten (also 3) would put your hand in the lead on the turn. If your J-T were suited, you have even more outs if the flop produces two more of your suit because of added flush possibilities.
