Overcard - A card that is higher in value than any other card in play.
An overcard can be compared to the value
of community cards (the board), or to those in an opponent’s hand. For instance, if you have KJ and the flop is 9-7-3, you
don't have a pair, but you have two overcards to the board. Your hand still has potential against someone holding A-9, because
if one of your hole cards pairs on the turn or river, you can still win the hand.
Overcards can also be based on the comparison between two players’ hands. If a player goes all in with 8-8, and an opponent
calls with A-K, the all-in player faces overcards which could put him at risk. Over simply means higher in value.
