Position -
1. Your place/time to act during a hand of poker.
2. The most favorable seat on a particular hand.
There is a lot of information readily available to anyone wanting to learn about position in poker, or the order in
which you bet within a particular betting round.
Due to the revolving button (and blinds)
around the table in a game of Hold’em, a player’s position changes each hand, to “early”, “middle” and “late” in accordance
with how soon they will act at the start of each betting round. Normally, it is better to be in late position with others
acting before you because you can gain information from their actions before it is your turn. In Hold’em, the button
(or dealer seat) determines position throughout the hand.
In Stud games, “position” is determined by the value of active hands (i.e. – the strongest hand begins after 3rd
street) and thus a player’s relative position can change during a hand.
Having position on an opponent means you are last to act.
