Pot - The total amount of money to be won or lost during a hand.

The money/chips gathered into the middle of the table by the dealer from antes, blinds, bets, and raises made by players acting in a hand is called “the pot”. This money goes to the winner(s) of each hand. If you have not yet folded, you are "in the pot" and eligible to win the chips gathered there.

Pots are classified as “main” or “side” depending on which players have put money into each. A pot can be said to be “dry” if no wagers have yet been made into it. For example, if a player goes all in and two opponents call, a new side pot is created. However, if neither of the two players with chips remaining in the hand make any bets (just “check down”) for the rest of the hand, they leave a dry (empty) side pot.
