Quads – Four cards of the same rank.

One of the strongest possible poker holdings, “Quads”, or four of a kind, can only be beaten by a straight flush or a royal flush. However, making quads is a rarity.

While the chances are astronomical, “quads over quads” occurs often enough to make some bad beat jackpot players very happy. A player does not need a pocket pair to make quads. For example, if a player holds Q9 and the 5 community cards contain the other three of either of his pocket cards (i.e. 9-9-5-K-9), he still makes four of a kind.
