Rack – A plastic tray used to hold chips.
Stacks of poker chips can be cumbersome
to carry without dropping them. A rack is commonly used to store chips while walking from the cashier cage to the table and
vice versa. Tournament players changing from one table to another will usually ask (sometimes required) for one or more racks
to put their chips in before transporting them to a new seat.
Racks hold 100 chips in five columns (or stacks) of 20 each. Thus, a complete rack of $5 chips holds $500.
The term “card rack” is also heard to refer to a player who is having a good session and catching a lot of good hands.
Calling someone a card rack insinuates the lucky player is “racking up the cards” in his favor beyond the law of
averages.
