Ragged – A flop (or board) that doesn’t seem likely to help anyone’s hand.

An example of a ragged flop is J-7-2 rainbow. Players holding a big pocket pair, such as KK, are happy to see a ragged looking flop, as the likelihood of their hand being in the lead is still great.

However, anything can (and does) happen in the game of poker. If a preflop raiser with AA has two callers and is check raised by someone after betting a ragged flop of Q-8-3, there is a possibility that one of his opponents has made an even stronger hand, such as a set (three of a kind).

Typically however, the majority of ragged boards yield to the player who holds top pair, or an overpair to the board.
