Railbird - A person who is not playing poker, but watching a game from the rail. Usually used as a derogatory term.
If poker had a class system, a railbird would be at the bottom of the hierarchy. A term used to refer to those not actually
playing (observing from the rail), a railbird often hangs around observing others. They hope and root for players that
they know personally thinking that the player might put the railbird into action if they win big or hit a
jackpot.
Also, those players habitually knocked out of a tournament early and considered
“dead money” who hang around the tournament
area as fixtures, are often referred to as railbirds as a slight put down to their playing ability.
