Reraise - To raise after someone has already raised.
Whereas a raise in poker indicates a strong hand, a reraise typically signifies an even better hand.If a player raises
in early position with a good hand, such as AhJh, and is faced with a reraise by another player in late position, he
must consider very carefully whether or not to proceed in the hand.
Reraising is also used effectively to
isolate your hand against just one
other opponent. For example: If a player to act before you moves “all in” in a tournament and you have a
pocket pair such as 8-8, you might
(depending on the number of chips you have) reraise substantially. Anyone after you that is facing an “all-in” plus a reraise
(by you) will feel certain that one of you has a very strong hand, and your reraise might get them to lay down a hand that is
even stronger than yours (such as TT or JJ). If your reraise succeeds in narrowing the field, your hand has a better chance of
winning vs. the all-in player. You also eliminate the risk of having to invest more chips into the pot than if you had just
called, opening yourself up to a possible reraise by a player to act later.
