Scoop - In split pot games, to win the entire pot rather than splitting.
In split pot games (hi-lo games for example),
split pots are common. In many of
these games, it is possible for the same player to produce a hand that wins both the high and the low side of the pot.
This is called a “scoop,” a “scooper,” or a “scoop pot.” You will hear this term used primarily in split pot games, where
there is often a need to differentiate between split pots and pots with only one winner. It is far less common to hear it
used in high only or Lowball games, where the vast majority of pots have only one winner (it goes without saying that pots
in these games are “scoops”).
“Scoop” is also sometimes used as a verb. If you beat your opponent out of the whole pot in a hi/lo
game, you have “scooped” him. This term is common to both hi/lo Stud and hi/lo Omaha games.
