Suck out - To beat a made hand with an underdog or a drawing hand.

If you are behind on a hand, and you catch a card that causes you to win the hand, you have sucked out. The terminology will often carry with it a negative context. For instance, after losing with a premium hand, a player may say sarcastically, “Nice suckout.” While it is true that some suckouts are the result of incorrect chases, others are the result of a player correctly determining that he had pot odds to take the draw. Rather than getting angry when someone sucks out on you, it is better to accept it as part of the game.

Remember, good players will get sucked out on much more often than bad players. This is because when good players put money in the pot, they will be in the lead most of the time. In order to suck out, you must be behind in the hand. So the players who play poorly, and are behind most of the time, will do a majority of the sucking out. Do not let the feeling of constantly being sucked out on affect your mental approach to the game. Being in the lead a lot is a huge advantage, and well worth the price of an occasional suckout.
